Side Effects

I've been fairly lucky that I haven't had many of the side effects that can go along with pregnancy: morning sickness, cramping, soreness, etc. Yet I've been dealing with the extreme exhaustion and occasional nausea spurts (which is simply alleviated by eating something at the onset). I've learned that I NEED to eat about every 45 minutes to avoid that upset tummy feeling. The doctor referred to this as "grazing" and I think that explains it quite well. She assured me that lots of small meals throughout the day are perfectly normal and encouraged. My only complaint is I really wish I had more motivation to do things, just making dinner is quite the task these days. I really enjoy cooking, so it's quite frustrating to leave these tasks for Chris. I'm sure he'll be complaining shortly if I don't find a burst of energy. I think his exact wording the other night was "You didn't do anything at all today!" And he's right. I went from work, to being half awake while watching a program to climbing into bed for the night (before 8:30pm). Then I get to sleep for a few hours and am awoken by the sudden urge to wet the bed :) That's just mother nature's way of preparing me for the nightly feedings! I'm praying that I find some energy and I can finally get around to the million tasks I've been putting off.

Anniversary

Today is Chris and my 5 year wedding anniversary! It's hard to fathom that five years have already come and gone! We've had many changes to our lives since September 17, 2005:

  • Big move to Wisconsin from Iowa
  • Chris starting up his own company
  • Buying our first home in Madison
  • Getting a second dog, Hurley
  • And now a little one on the way!

I can't wait for the next 5 years and all of the fun events to happen in our lives! I definitely married my best friend and I couldn't have asked for a better day surrounded by our friends and family. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special!

Lots of love,

Chris, Amber & Baby Z

Appointment #1

Well the first appointment is complete. Since it was just an intake appointment, it was all paperwork and tests. Chris graciously went with me (he plans to attend every appointment!) to provide support. He did a good job of helping answer questions--he even knew my prenatal vitamins had iron when the Nurse Practitioner asked! I of course had no clue!

We went through both of our family histories and then went through the list of things I should avoid. Don't worry Chris "told" on me that I drank before I knew I was pregnant. She assured me that I'm not th e only one and me and the baby were fine. Thanks Chris.

We also had a chance to ask questions, most things I knew the answer but wanted some confirmation. She informed me that I CAN in fact have deli meat which I was under the impression I should be avoiding it from all the books/articles I read. Apparently that is an issue of the past and deli meat should be safe now. I also confirmed that I won't be dying my hair for the next 9 months. I can tell you that I do know the reason why, I'm still very sad. It's my treat to myself every 10 weeks and now I'm stuck with some ugly roots. Maybe I'll get a wig or just shave it all off :)

We ended the appointment with all the shots (flu shot) and tests (urine/blood). They took like 6 vials of blood, I couldn't believe how much they needed! At least the gentleman was super nice and good at his job! Now we just wait for the results--should be a week or so.

Lot's of love,

Chris, Amber & Baby Z

First Appointment

Our first appointment is scheduled for September 16th. This is just a standard OB Intake appt., so it won't be with my Doctor but her Nurse Practitioner instead. My first OB appt., will be on October 8th, and from that date on we'll be able to share the good news with the rest of our friends and finally share our blog! Back to this Thursday, from what I understand she'll just be going over the basics and giving us lots of paperwork and pamphlets to take home. I'm sure we'll have a few questions for her, as well. I guess this starts the onset of visits to my clinic!

Lot's of love,

Spilled the beans

The excitement got the best of us, and we HAD to share the news with our families! After deciding we would tell our family, we had the challenge of coming up with a clever way of revealing it to our parents & grandparents. I did my fair share of googling and opted with an idea of my own in the end--I can be creative at times. I printed of a sheet that said:

"Hi Grandma & Grandpa, Guess who will be making their debut on April 24, 2010?
Hint: It has nothing to do with Easter Sunday or the Easter Bunny!" (A cute stork carrying a baby was pictured in the corner)

Then I cut up that sheet into a bunch of puzzle pieces, stuffed in into a envelope that instructed whomever to only complete the puzzle together. So far it's been a hit and no one has been confused! The first rounds were the parents and the second round will be the grandparents puzzles. Feel free to steal my sweet idea :)

Love,
Chris, Amber & Baby Z
